WHO WE ARE

One accountable relationship across the lifecycle

Family owned and operated, with origins going back to 2001, 1st Key brings a long-term perspective to the buildings and people it supports.

Our work starts with understanding how people use a building, then connects the systems that help them operate it. From assessment and engineered scope to installation, integration, testing and service, we focus on the handoffs that often cause problems later.

Based at 4955 Miller St, Suite 104, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, 1st Key works across physical security, life safety, communications and network infrastructure for commercial, community and public-serving facilities.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

The system matters. Your experience matters just as much.

A successful project should leave you with fewer problems to manage, clearer answers and confidence in the people responsible for your building technology.

Customers come to 1st Key because something needs to work better: doors that are difficult to administer, cameras that do not answer an incident question, meeting rooms that waste time, aging infrastructure or multiple vendors pointing at one another. Our starting point is your operating reality. Who uses the building? What interrupts their work? What would a better day look like for your facilities, security and IT teams?

Customer satisfaction begins before equipment is ordered. We work to make the scope understandable, identify dependencies and explain the choices that affect cost, usability and future service. A lower equipment price can become an expensive operating problem if it leaves out licensing, network readiness, staff training or documentation. We want you to understand those tradeoffs and make decisions with the full picture in view.

Clear communication when conditions change

Existing buildings rarely match every drawing. A door may need hardware coordination; a cable pathway may be inaccessible; an occupied area may require a different work window. Our approach is to explain the issue, outline the options and agree on changes before proceeding with affected work. Customers should be able to distinguish an approved scope change from an unresolved question.

We value practical communication: the next milestone, the person responsible, what we need from your team and any open item that could affect the schedule. At handoff, the conversation moves from installation to operation. Can your administrator add a user? Can an operator find the correct camera? Does the facilities team know where the panel is and what to do when an alert appears?

Closeout is the beginning of ownership

We focus on tested workflows, usable records and training appropriate to the people taking over the system. Exceptions should have an owner and a next step. If something is not meeting the agreed scope, tell us what happened, where it happened and how it affects your operation. We use that information to establish the service priority and coordinate follow-up under the applicable support arrangement.

Our ambition is a relationship that lasts beyond one installation. Feedback about confusing controls, recurring alarms or difficult service access is useful design information. It helps shape maintenance, future phases and decisions about what to keep, improve or replace.

WHY 1ST KEY

Local accountability. Connected thinking. A longer view.

Family owned and operated, with origins going back to 2001, we bring a relationship-focused approach to customers across the greater Denver metropolitan area and the Front Range.

One conversation across systems

A camera depends on the network. A controlled door depends on hardware, power and an approved egress sequence. We consider those connections together so you can discuss the operating problem without first deciding which vendor owns it. One Integrator, Every System.

A plan for the building you actually have

Modernization does not always mean starting over. We assess the condition, compatibility and supportability of installed equipment, then explain where reuse makes sense and where replacement deserves consideration. The goal is a practical roadmap around your budget and operating needs.

Handoffs that support your team

Device names, permissions, test records and training should help the next person operate the system. We treat those details as part of delivery, with scope and responsibility agreed before work begins.

How to compare us with a large national integrator

National providers can be a good fit for organizations that need broad geographic coverage or standardized procurement across many markets. Company size alone does not tell you who will answer a service request, understand your site or take responsibility for a difficult integration. Those are the questions worth asking of every provider, including us.

Ask who will own the relationship after the sale, how field changes are approved, what documentation you receive and how a service issue moves from initial contact to resolution. Ask whether a recommendation reflects your installed environment and operating goals. Compare the written scope, exclusions, support terms and acceptance criteria—not just the equipment list.

1st Key’s intended difference is the combination of local relationships and multiple connected disciplines. We want to understand your facility well enough that the next improvement builds on the last one. We do not claim that every competitor works the same way, and we do not ask you to judge us on slogans alone. Ask us to walk through how we would deliver your project, support your people and measure completion.

One Integrator, Every System. For us, that means connecting the technical work to a simpler customer experience: a clearer plan, coordinated execution and an ongoing conversation about what your building needs next.

HOW THE WORK IS CHECKED

Ask for evidence you can use after the crew leaves.

Depending on the scope, these working records make ownership and follow-up clearer.

BEFORE FIELD WORK

Pre-site safety review

Identify site access, occupied spaces, hazards and coordination needs before installation begins.

DURING DELIVERY

Marked-up field records

Track device identifiers, routes, changes and open items as work proceeds.

AT HANDOFF

Customer acceptance

Review tested scenarios, training, exceptions and documents with the people responsible for the system.

WHAT GUIDES THE WORK

How we think about a project

01

Understand the operation

Start with users, facility risks and current systems before naming products.

02

Connect the disciplines

Review doors, video, life safety, AV and networks as parts of one environment.

03

Leave a usable record

Test, train and document so the system can be supported after closeout.
